Writing Guides

How To Use Writing Guides

There are two ways to fill out the guides. You can:

1) Download and print out the Print version and write in your answers by hand or

2) Download the PDF Form and type in your answers digitally.

These guides were made with authors in mind but can be used for any creative story project, including Novels, short stories, film scripts, and RPG games. The guides are free to download and use, but please do not claim ownership or redistribute them as your own. Also note that although I worked hard to construct and organize the guides themselves, the inspiration for some of the questions comes from multiple sources for which I do not take credit.

Each category contains options for different types of guides. For example, there are separate guides for different types of settings. If your scene takes place in an abandoned mine shaft or a small house, you’ll need different information than what is offered for a large city or mountainside.

Use the guides that relate to your project and fill out as much or as little information as you need. It is not required to complete the entire guide if not necessary.

Don’t stress about the answers. You can always skip or go back and change whatever you need to later. You do not need to fill out the guides (or questions within the guides) in any order. Answering the easier questions first can help generate ideas for answers to other questions. I am always jumping about to wherever my inspiration takes me.

If your work involves more than one character, setting, religion, or magic system, you should fill out for each. I recommend storing completed templates in designated folders to keep track of all your information
